Boat Fire Safety talk, 16th October, Bradford on Avon and more planned

Three Boat Fire Safety presentations are planned this winter so far. The first is this Monday 16th October 2017 at 7.30pm at the Canal Tavern, below the lock in Bradford on Avon.

There will be another at the Black Horse, between locks 47 and 48 in Devizes, on Monday 13th November. There will also be one in the Bath area, the date is to be confirmed.

Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service will be giving comprehensive advice on how to make your boat as fire safe as possible and what to do in case of fire, including FREE smoke detectors and carbon monoxide alarms.

Please try and get to one of these – don’t become a statistic – according to the Fire Service, a massive 28% of boat fires cause fatalities. Don’t let this happen to you, come and find out how to prevent fire hazards on your boat.

The Fire Safety sessions are organised by Julian House Travelling Communities Support Service in conjunction with Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service. The Fire Service will continue to offer fire safety advice on the towpath or you can request a free boat fire safety visit.

You can contact the Travelling Communities Support Service on
07960 097719 or email samw@julianhouse.org.uk or lindsayh@julianhouse.org.uk

If you would like a Fire Safety check on your boat, contact Karen Pearson at the Fire and Rescue Service on 07515 187345 or karen.pearson@dwfire.org.uk. The Fire and Rescue Service also provide homeless packs – rucksacks with basic equipment to help people who are homeless and sleeping rough. If you know anyone who needs a homeless pack, contact Karen at the Fire and Rescue Service as above.

The Fire and Rescue Service also runs a stall offering public fire safety advice – including boat fire safety – at the Shambles indoor market, Market Place, Devizes on the last Thursday of every month.
