Kennet and Avon Trust work boat needs crew!

The Kennet and Avon Canal Trust is now holding weekly work parties and volunteers have recently been busy gardening and tidying up around Bradford Lock. The Trust has also been allocated the exclusive use of the BW work boat “Vale of Pewsey” for three weeks from Monday 14 March. They will be trimming back overhanging vegetation. A crew of four people for each day is needed. If you want to get involved in volunteering with the Kennet and Avon Canal Trust, contact volunteering@katrust.org.uk or have a look at www.katrust.co.uk It costs £20 a year (£15 for Senior Citizens) to join the Trust.

BW has recently announced that its annual Towpath Tidy will now be monthly. More details can be found on www.britishwaterways.co.uk. Liveaboard boaters have done two organised towpath tidies between Bradford on Avon and Bath recently. When we organised them, a lot of boaters said “I always pick up the litter from the towpath near my boat anyway!”  The picture below shows the first Bradford on Avon Star Class replica work boat arriving at Dundas loaded with rubbish last November during one of the boaters’ towpath tidying days.
