Research into canal boat dwelling in London and South West England

Professor Richard Yarwood (Plymouth University) and Dr Agatha Herman (Cardiff University) are carrying out research into Canal boat dwelling: Homes, Welfare and Mobile Citizenship on Britain’s Canals. They are particularly interested in issues around homes, families, welfare and citizenship and they would love to hear your stories as these will help them better understand the benefits and challenges you experience. The four main objectives are to:

Examine why people live on canal boats;
Evaluate how people living on canal boats access services and employment;
Study how canal regulations impact on lifestyles;
Understand these issues in the context of mobile, canal communities.

The research project is funded by the British Academy and Leverhulme Trust. If you live aboard either with or without a home mooring in London or the South West and would like to be involved, please get in touch with Agatha Herman on HermanA@cardiff.ac.uk. Your details will be kept anonymous and confidential.
