A group of local residents, itinerant boaters and long-term mooring holders have started a petition to keep the CRT boater bins at Bathampton, which were closed by CRT a month ago on 11th March with only a week’s notice and no consultation. The lane where boaters park their vehicles in Wilcot has been ‘landscaped’ to make parking impossible, according to boaters who are moored there. On 24th October, rubble and earth was piled up along the whole length of the lane on both sides, making a steep bank as shown in the photographs below. This was done even though there were some boaters’ cars parked in the lane at the time.
The Chief Executive of Wadworths Brewery, Chris Welham, has refused to re-instate the boaters’ rubbish bins at the Bridge Inn, Horton following a complaint. Boaters have now started an online petition calling on both Wadworths and Canal & River Trust to re-instate the bins.
