The Kennet and Avon Canal Trust and British Waterways are asking local people and organisations to nominate interested individuals to become volunteer board members on the new Waterway Partnership Board. The deadline is very soon. It’s really important that as many boaters as possible volunteer to be on the board of the partnership so that we are properly represented. Contact administrator@katrust.org.uk by Friday 27 August 2010 to nominate yourself.

Wednesday, August 18th, 2010Wiltshire Fire Service offer to help the Kennet and Avon Canal Trust
Thursday, June 10th, 2010By now you may have met Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service cycling along the towpath giving out fire safety advice and free smoke detectors. They may look a bit like BW staff as they will be wearing the Fire Service uniform of blue shirt, black trousers and also a life jacket, so make sure you don’t mistake them for the boat checkers or enforcement officers, because a smoke detector could save your life, whereas a patrol notice is only useful for starting fires.
On second thoughts, keep the patrol notices and threatening letters, as you may wish to refer to them when making a complaint to BW about unlawful enforcement.
Done and dusted!
Thursday, May 27th, 2010Around 20 people spent Sunday afternoon clearing litter from the towpath and the water between Bradford on Avon and Bath. Using boathooks and fishing nets, and carrying the rubbish in wheelbarrows, bike trailers and boats, the group took about four hours to do most of the canal and also Warleigh Weir. Well done to everyone who took part, especially as it was such a hot day. Another clean-up has been suggested for the winter, when it will be easier to find any litter that’s hidden by the undergrowth at this time of year, so watch this space…
Boaters’ carol service
Thursday, April 8th, 2010It’s ben a while since Christmas, but we’ve recently been given this photo of the Dundas carol service. Peter Attwill, who led the service, made a point of acknowledging the number of boaters’ children
Nothing’s simple.
Friday, March 26th, 2010Well I guess I owe Keith Rossiter an apology.
After giving him such a hard time about unfounded allegations. I was cycling home last night around 11.30 and witnessed someone on the back of Leah Rose 506166 emptying a toilet into the canal.
What should I do about this? What should our community do about this?
It has quite depressed me that I spend so much time defending our community and do so much work to prevent people like Mr Rossiter spreading rumour and untruth.
I am effectively defending the right of fuckwits like this to behave like this.
It will be a while before I feel able to continue with this website or any other actions.
so….
Sorry Keith.
