Jenkyn Knill has contacted us to say that as of 1st July 2011 Hampton Wharf services will no longer be available for general use. Because of the age of the sewer and associated problems, Jenks has decided that the pump out needs to be moved to a different location. Please contact him if you have any queries.

Wednesday, June 8th, 2011Impact Assessment Questionnaire
Wednesday, May 25th, 2011This questionnaire is being carried out by liveaboard boaters as part of the Equality Impact Assessment of the Local Mooring Strategy proposals for the western Kennet and Avon canal (Bath to Devizes). The purpose of this questionnaire is to find out what impact the proposed mooring restrictions will have on liveaboard boaters – most of whom don’t have moorings.

Curtain twitchers’ charter – more evidence of BANES plans to employ boat checker
Wednesday, November 3rd, 2010Following a Freedom of Information request we have obtained the deployment plan written by BW giving details of how the Canal Monitoring and Enforcement Officer post proposed to BANES by Councillor Ian Dewey of Bathampton would work. Written in March, this document shows that BANES was planning to patrol the canal 5 days a week between Bathampton and Bradford on Avon, and assumed it would gain Wiltshire’s support for patrolling the area within its boundary. However, Ken Oliver, Wiltshire Council’s Canal Officer stated at a meeting of the local mooring strategy steering group on 26 August that Wiltshire was not prepared to participate in this scheme.
Profit and prejudice
Tuesday, October 12th, 2010Our busy freedom of information bees have turned up yet more evidence that the local mooring strategy is inspired by a vicious combination of prejudice against liveaboard boaters and BW’s desire to extract the maximum profit wherever it can.
Done and dusted!
Thursday, May 27th, 2010Around 20 people spent Sunday afternoon clearing litter from the towpath and the water between Bradford on Avon and Bath. Using boathooks and fishing nets, and carrying the rubbish in wheelbarrows, bike trailers and boats, the group took about four hours to do most of the canal and also Warleigh Weir. Well done to everyone who took part, especially as it was such a hot day. Another clean-up has been suggested for the winter, when it will be easier to find any litter that’s hidden by the undergrowth at this time of year, so watch this space…
Kennet and Avon Bi-Centenary at Bathampton
Friday, May 21st, 2010Hello everyone… KevThePipe calling all artists and performers!
The K&A Bicentenary event is taking place at Bathampton Wharf, Saturday 17th July all day, kids stuff in the daytime, bands and films in the evening.
I know word is getting around about this event so now is the time to start getting our arses in gear!
The event is basically being organized by Bathampton residents with the Parish Council providing funding, insurance etc. I’ve been involved from the beginning and I’ve made sure boaters are well represented and we’ll be providing lots of infrastructure but I now need to know who’s up for doing a turn on the stage.
I’ve spoken to a few but need you all to spread the word and get me definite ‘acts’ so I can schedule them in… I’m stage managing the event so my word is law!
contact me in person on ‘Stanley’, by email kevaitch@hotmail.com, by phone 07796 560476 or get me on FaceBook.
Great efforts have been made to repair the relationship between Bathampton residents and boaters and now’s our chance to shine… so come on you stars!
Enough is Enough
Saturday, March 20th, 2010The corruption of British Waterways is now endemic and pervades every thing that they do.
Strong words?
Well take a close look at this…
Truth will out
Monday, February 8th, 2010The real picture about the ‘problems’ on the Western Kennet and Avon is beginning to emerge. Way back when we made a Freedom of Information Act request about the numbers and type of complaints in the Bathampton, Claverton and Dundas areas.
