Partnership Board to form committee on mooring strategy

BW release draft mooring strategy proposals

BW recently released a draft summary of the Local Mooring Strategy proposals to the Steering Group and the representatives of unaffiliated boaters on the Group responded to these draft proposals this week. BW has asked for responses from Steering Group members prior to putting the finalised proposals out to consultation. Watch out for boaters’ meetings soon to make sure you have your say about it. BW’s summary of the proposals and the unaffiliated boaters’ response is below.

Voting for the Canal and River Trust Council starts tomorrow, 8th February. Liveaboard boater Frank Kelly, who helped to prevent BW from introducing its draconian and unlawful mooring strategy for the River Lea,  is standing for election to one of the four private boater places on the Council.

Local NABO rep furious at BW’s decision to disband local mooring strategy group

All liveaboard boaters invited to take part in Wiltshire Council project

Wiltshire Council is running a new project called ‘Boaters’ Voices’. It is part of ‘Wiltshire Voices’ which aims to raise awareness of the needs and rights of under-represented groups in Wiltshire. All liveaboard boaters are invited to be part of this project if you are in Wiltshire either temporarily or permanently. If you want to take part, please come to a meeting and hot supper on Monday 27thFebruary, 6.30-8.30pm at the Corn Exchange, Market Place, Devizes.

Boat Fire Safety Advisor out and about this week

Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service’s boat fire safety advisor Rob Buckland is out on the K and A in Wiltshire this week offering free smoke detectors and fire safety advice. This is the first time the Fire Service has done this in winter.

Public Bodies Bill becomes law but still time to object to BW charity registration

The Public Bodies Bill that will enable the government to transfer BW to a charity, gained Royal Assent on 14 December and is now law. There is still time to object to the registration of the Canal and River Trust. We understand that the application to register the charity will be made very soon so there isn’t a lot of time to get your objections in.

LILO Liveaboard Boaters Gathering near Pewsey April 2012

Low Impact Life Onboard (LILO) is hosting a gathering of boaters at a pub with a camp site and barn near Pewsey from 13th to 15th April 2012. All boaters are welcome. It will be an informal get-together for boaters to share news and skills. There will be plenty of camping space available for those who decide not to bring their boats to the gathering. The site is 5 minutes walk from the canal.
