K&A User Group meeting 23rd April, Devizes

The next Kennet and Avon Canal User Group Meeting will take place this Wednesday 23rd April 2014 at the Corn Exchange, Market Place, Devizes SN10 1HS (beside the Bear Hotel). Doors are open at 6.30 pm and the meeting will take place at 7 pm to 8.30 pm with light refreshments provided.

Hire company recalls stag party boats

Two boatloads of drunk stag partygoers had their holiday terminated early by Oxfordshire Narrowboats last weekend. The boats were taken back on Saturday following numerous complaints about their behaviour.

River Kennet now passable with care

The River Kennet Navigation between Kintbury and Reading was re-opened to navigation on 4th April. However the flows are still strong and CRT have advised boaters to take extra care.

Register now if you want to vote in the 2014 European election

Liveaboard boaters have the right to vote even though we may not have a fixed address. There will be European Parliament elections on May 22nd this year. If you fill in and send back the electoral registration form before the deadline of May 6th 2014, you will be added to the electoral roll in time to vote. Sally Ash to go! (not an April Fool)

We have just heard that Sally Ash, CRT’s Head of Boating, dubbed the ‘Wicked Witch of Watford’ and ‘Cruella De Vil’ by boaters for her efforts over many years to destroy the lives of liveaboard continuous cruisers, is to retire at the end of June this year.
