Boat safety examinations can go ahead again as Coronavirus suspension is lifted

The Boat Safety Scheme (BSS) has announced that boat safety examinations can now resume for most boat owners, but they will happen in a ‘new normal’ framework based on the latest Government guidance.

Caen Hill open for booked passage from today but K&A closed at Wootton Rivers until July

CRT has opened the Caen Hill flight for booked passage only until 31st May. Contact 07467 330114 to make a booking. From 1st June passage of the flight will be possible without booking provided boaters follow specific arrangements that CRT intends to announce after the late May bank holiday.

CRT plans phased return to navigation from 13th May

CRT has announced a phased return to navigation in England with short day trips permitted from 13th May 2020. From 23rd May, enforcement of the 14-day rule will resume and visitor moorings will revert to summer time limits.

CRT extends coronavirus boat movement suspension to 23rd May

Yesterday (11th May 2020) CRT announced that the suspension of all but essential boat movements would continue until 23rd May. Visitor moorings can continue to be used for 14 days where this applies.

Coronavirus Support on the eastern K&A

Whilst it has not yet been possible to set up dedicated support for liveaboard boaters on the eastern K&A during the coronavirus lockdown, there are some land based community support groups in that operate from Great Bedwyn eastwards.

Benefits Telephone Surgery for K&A Boaters Tuesday and Friday 2 – 4 pm

Many liveaboard boaters have been impacted financially by the current coronavirus crisis, and having to spend hours on hold to claim Universal Credit by phone or having online claim pages time out is causing extra stress. Waterways Chaplain Susan Stapleton is offering a Boater Benefits Telephone Surgery for liveaboards on the K&A who need support and advice with their claim.

Food, fuel and chandlery during the lockdown

Local liveaboards, waterway businesses and charities have joined together to keep supplies going to boaters during the coronavirus lockdown, including an extension of the Pay It Forward scheme where you can donate to cover the cost of fuel or food for someone who is struggling financially.
