Monday, August 16th, 2021Please write to your MP now about CRT’s proposed changes to boat licence T&C!
Tuesday, February 16th, 2021In the next few weeks CRT will be starting to finalise the changes to the Boat Licence Terms and Conditions following the consultation that ended on 21st December 2020. Please write to your MP, or better still ask for a (virtual) meeting with them – personal contact is far more effective than a letter – and ask him or her to intervene to halt CRT’s proposed changes to the Boat Licence Terms and Conditions. Here is a sample letter to express your concerns and request a meeting with your MP:
Only a week left to oppose CRTs proposed changes to Boat Licence Terms and Conditions! Please respond now!
Monday, December 14th, 2020The CRT consultation on proposed changes to Boat Licence Terms and Conditions ends on Monday 21st December 2020. You can only respond to the consultation online here https://wh.snapsurveys.com/s.asp?k=159843204588
Below we publish a short version of the previously published example response. Please respond if you can – if implemented, the proposals will drive some of our community off the water and into homelessness. Your response will carry more weight if you can put it in your own words, but the example response is a guide. You can download it here Short Example response to CRT Licence T&C consultation 2020
Important boaters meeting next Monday 30th November to discuss CRT licence consultation
Tuesday, November 24th, 2020The K&A Boaters’ Action Group will be holding a telephone meeting on Monday 30th November 2020 at 7.30pm-9.30pm to discuss the current CRT consultation on changes to the Boat Licence Terms and Conditions. We are very concerned that the proposals will have serious implications for all boaters but especially for liveaboards.
Oppose CRT’s proposed changes to Boat Licence Terms and Conditions before 21st December
Sunday, November 22nd, 2020The CRT consultation on changes to the Boat Licence Terms and Conditions ends on Sunday 21st December 2020. We think CRT’s proposals for changes to the Boat Licence Terms and Conditions are unreasonable and unlawful. Both the National Association of Boat Owners and the National Bargee Travellers Association are extremely concerned about these proposed changes. Please respond if you can.
Below we publish an example response to the consultation. It is really important that the views of liveaboard boaters are represented in this consultation. If implemented, the proposals will drive some of our community off the water and into homelessness. Please complete the consultation questionnaire opposing these proposals. Your response will carry more weight if you can put it in your own words, however the example response is a guide. You can download a copy of the example response here Example response to CRT Licence T&C consultation 2020
Unfortunately CRT has decided that consultation responses can only be completed online here https://wh.snapsurveys.com/s.asp?k=159843204588
BaNES Council votes to close and relocate Mead Lane moorings by 2022
Monday, November 2nd, 2020BaNES to decide future of Mead Lane moorings on 8th October after survey finds no damage from boats
Monday, October 5th, 2020In January 2020 BaNES Council attempted to close the 14-day moorings at Mead Lane, Saltford following a long campaign by local residents hostile to liveaboard boaters. Allegations were made that the mooring of boats had damaged the river bank. A decision was made to carry out a structural survey, which took place on 3rd September 2020. The survey by Atkins Global engineering consultancy found that there was no damage to the bank from moored boats.
Coronavirus: CRT extends boat licences by one month
Saturday, April 25th, 2020Covid-19: CRT closes Caen Hill flight until further notice
Wednesday, March 25th, 2020CRT yesterday (24th March 2020) made the decision to close the Caen Hill flight between locks 29 and 44 until further notice as part of its response to the Covid-19 (coronavirus) pandemic, to protect its staff and ensure they are only sent to deal with the most critical tasks. The last boats were admitted at 10am yesterday.
The K&A is also closed at lock 52 at Wootton Rivers due to a broken gate, until further notice.
On Monday CRT suspended the 14-day rule until 14th April 2020 and boat sightings are not being taken during this period. This will be reviewed in mid-April.
CRT is also telling the public that if they use the towpath for their daily exercise or journey to undertake essential work, to avoid any stretches with boats moored against the towpath, and strictly observe social distancing at all times, following the latest advice from Government.
