CRT’s review of visitor moorings between Devizes and Reading has now finished and the proposals for change have been finalised. A 12-month trial/ consultation period has begun. If any changes have an adverse effect on liveaboard boaters it’s really important that we make this clear to CRT. Send your comments to CRT or make a formal complaint.

Wiltshire Council is carrying out a consultation regarding the report on its 2017 survey of liveaboard boaters. Please comment by 29th June 2018. Your comments will help to shape the Council’s approach to planning for the accommodation needs for residential boaters. CRT is currently carrying out a review of the visitor moorings between Devizes and Reading in a consultation exercise in which most of the user groups of the K&A are represented. Five meetings were held between August 2017 and March 2018. Proposals for any changes are due to be finalised this month, April 2018, and trialled for 12 months. During the trial, all boaters will have an opportunity to comment on the changes.

Wiltshire Council’s plans to develop land at Devizes Wharf will affect boaters. Plans for a footpath between Lock 50 and the Wharf Theatre could reduce mooring space and adversely impact all boaters. Please attend the Devizes Area Board meeting on 18th September and make your concerns known.

The Boaters’ Cafe Club outreach boat Litania will be at the lower wharf in Bradford on Avon on Tuesday 5th September 2017 from 12pm to 4pm. Paper copies of the Wiltshire liveaboard boaters’ survey will be available.

Paper copies of the Wiltshire Council boat dwellers survey are available for those who need them. You can collect a copy from Bradford on Avon, Devizes or Pewsey libraries. They will also be available on the Boaters’ Cafe Club outreach boat run by Julian House Gypsy, Traveller, Boater & Roma Community Support Service, which will be at Bradford Lower Wharf next Tuesday 5th September 12pm to 4pm. There may also be some distributed from boats in the Long Pound. Please pass this news on to anyone you know who might need it.

Wiltshire Council is carrying out an assessment of the housing needs of people who use a boat as their main home and is inviting boat dwellers both with and without a home mooring in Wiltshire to complete a survey. If you are permanently or temporarily in Wiltshire, or you travel through Wiltshire please take part. The survey is online and the Council is also going to make paper copies available. We will publicise how you can get a paper copy as soon as possible.
