CRT ‘publish’ map of places

In direct contradiction of an undertaking given to the boating organisations, CRT has published a map of places in an attempt to define the word ‘place’ as used in Section 17 3 c ii of the 1995 British Waterways Act, deliberately left ambiguous by Parliament.

Boat checkers are now Licensing Officers

The two Data Checkers (boat checkers) on the K&A, Paul Maidment and Matthew Preston, have recently had their job descriptions changed and are now called Licensing Officers.

CRT to upgrade K&A sanitary stations

CRT announced last week that it had allocated £225,000 towards upgrading sanitary stations on the K&A and in the North West, the Midlands and London as part of a new programme of improvements throughout the system that also includes dredging and offside vegetation cutting.

CRT to appoint Welfare Officer

Following much adverse publicity about evictions of vulnerable, elderly, ill and disabled boat dwellers, CRT has agreed to appoint a Boater Welfare Liaison Manager for an initial period of 12 months.

CRT restructuring leaves Salem out of the loop

Just before the retirement of Sally Ash, CRT announced on 24th June that it is to create a new post of Head of Customer Service, reporting directly to the Chief Executive Richard Parry. The new post will be responsible for leisure boating, licensing and enforcement as well as other customer service changes. This strips Marketing Director Simon Salem of much of his role.

Information request shows CRT changed K&A mooring plan after last-minute legal advice

A Freedom of Information request shows that CRT had received legal advice that meant it had to change the K&A local mooring plan substantially before implementation, contrary to the statement of CRT Chief Executive Richard Parry on 21st May.
