The Bath based charity Julian House has recently gained funding to appoint two Gypsy, Traveller and Boater Community Outreach and Engagement Officers. The service is a 15 month pilot project supporting Traveller and Boater Communities, funded by NHS Bath and North East Somerset Clinical Commissioning Group. The service aims to enhance the quality of life for Gypsy, Traveller, Showpeople and Boater families and individuals.
As well as working with people on a one-to-one basis, the service will be holding group events and workshops, aiming to highlight the needs of the communities and influence services to ensure that there are trusting relationships and fair access to health and social care for those who need it.
The service offers support for:
Accessing health services such as doctors, dentists and opticians
Accessing courses such as basic first aid and fire safety
Advocating for you with health and other services
Addressing legal matters or other issues affecting the quality of your life
Helping you to understand the range of services you are entitled to
Making complaints about services you have received
Any general welfare concerns
Empowering you to engage with the local community
If you would like advice or support with any of the above, contact Sam on 07960 09771 (samw@julianhouse.org.uk) or Connie on 07960 097728 (connier@julianhouse.org.uk).
