The Fire and Rescue Service say: “We are keen to ensure that our members of the boating community are kept safe from fire. Unfortunately, we have witnessed several devastating incidents involving canal boats during the past few years. Although boat fires on inland waters are less common than fires on land, when they do occur, they can have devastating consequences. Boats are often in remote locations with difficult access, which may result in Fire-fighters taking longer to arrive at an incident.
In a bid to try and ensure you are kept safe from fire Dorset & Wiltshire Fire & Rescue Service provide FREE Boat Safety packs which contain information on boat fire safety and carbon monoxide safety. We have also included two smoke detectors and a carbon monoxide detector for Boaters to install in their boat. These alarms will alert you or others to the fact there is a fire or presence of carbon monoxide aboard your boat, they just might save you and your family’s lives”.
