The Floating Cinema, a mobile multifunctional arts space on a purpose-built narrowboat, is coming to the K&A via Brentford between 4th June and 2nd August. The Floating Cinema is known for its innovative programme of film screenings, participatory events, workshops and talks which make use of films from local and national archives. The cinema, launched in 2011, was designed by Duggan Morris Architects.
This will be the cinema’s first trip outside London, stopping at locations in Berkshire and Wiltshire before taking up residency in Bristol for a week in July. It will present a programme of outdoor screenings, events, and workshops which celebrate the local area in Reading, Aldermaston, Newbury, Crofton, Honey Street, Devizes, Caen Hill, Bradford-on-Avon, Bath and Bristol. The Floating Cinema will then travel back to London, showcasing a newly commissioned film by artist duo Somewhere and a new sound installation created in response to the outward journey by artist-in-residence Yann Seznec.
Bookings are now open for events from Brentford to Bath. Bookings for Bristol and the return journey will open on 8th June. Most events are free but booking is essential due to limited capacity. You can view the programme and book here http://floatingcinema.info/events/2015/on-tour
The Floating Cinema is also recruiting voluntary ‘Tour Ambassadors’ across the tour to help run and manage the events. It is offering expenses to a total of £60 per day and arts event management training in Reading, Devizes and Bristol. “This is a great opportunity for anyone seeking work experience in a fun and friendly environment” said project curator Laura Harford.
