Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service provides free fire safety advice for boaters on the K&A in Wiltshire. This includes free smoke alarms and advice on fitting smoke alarms and the safety of cooking equipment, fuel storage, electrical systems and solid fuel stoves.
If you would like a free boat fire safety visit please contact Firefighter Mike Franklin on 07919 306037 or email michael.franklin@wiltsfire.gov.uk. Please provide your name and contact details and your boat name or other identifying features and where you are moored. The boat fire safety visits are completely confidential. There have been at least three boat fires on the K&A in recent months. Sadly this week a boater died in the most recent fire, which firefighters believe was caused by the solid fuel stove. Another fire was caused by an electrical fault.
