CRT announced in the last few days that the K&A will not be split between two regions in the charity’s ongoing restructuring, as was originally proposed. The waterway will be incorporated as a whole into the new Wales and South West Region.
This decision follows intense lobbying by various bodies including the K&A Trust and Local Waterway Partnership, supported by BaNES, Wiltshire and West Berkshire Councils which had all contributed to funding the canal’s restoration. The split was proposed so that CRT’s new regions could be aligned to local authority boundaries to make it easier to raise funds from local Councils.
The names of the new regional waterways directors have yet to be released. The restructuring is certain to result in job losses for CRT staff, especially at middle management level.
