The next meeting of the K&A Boaters’ Action Group will be on Monday 12th February 2018 at 7.30pm at the Somerset Arms, High St, Semington BA14 6JR, a 5 minute walk south from the canal bridge. All are welcome. The meeting aims to plan what action to take if CRT announces an increase in licence fees for boats without a home mooring.
CRT said it would publish the outcome of the licence review in late January 2018. One of the outcomes could be that licence fees for boats without a home mooring will be massively increased compared to the fee for those with a mooring. This would affect a large number of both liveaboards and leisure boaters on the K&A and beyond. Boaters have already put forward some ideas of how to fight this if it happens – please come and contribute your ideas, or help with planning any action.
Please also come to the meeting if you need any information about CRT enforcement, restriction of a boat licence renewal to 6 months or other matters regarding the rights of liveaboard boaters.
We will also have voter registration forms available if you want to register to vote by declaring a local connection, for those without a residential address. Politics at the moment mean there could be a General Election at any time – make sure you can vote if you want to!
The Boaters’ Action Group aims to defend and promote the boating community on the K&A. The group has a new schedule: meetings are now every 2 months on the second Monday. There will be meetings on 9th April and 11th June 2018. There may be extra meetings if these are needed. Please contact info@boatingcommunity.org.uk or 07928 078208. We look forward to seeing you on 12th February.
