There will be a boaters’ meeting to discuss the CRT surcharges for boats without a home mooring; lack of facilities; lack of waterway maintenance and other issues that affect the community of liveaboard boaters on the K&A, and what we can do to protect our way of life.
The meeting will take place at 5pm on Sunday 15th October 2023 at the Wallington Hall, Church St, Bradford on Avon BA15 1LN. Church St is opposite the Dandy Lion pub; the hall used to be called the Masonic Hall or the Church Hall.
The meeting has been organised by boater Martha Mccarron, who said:
“I am holding a Parlay for all members of the Kennet and Avon. At Wallington Hall in Bradford on Avon on 15th October at 1700 hours. This meeting is to start the conversation on the Kennet and Avon about Canal & River Trust (CRT) and what we can do as a community, to ensure our community and our way of living is protected. Also to provide factual information on what changes are happening across our stretch of waterways and to raise awareness on current issues we face.
As most of us know we will soon be paying higher licence fees for continuous cruisers, but what for?
There will also be information on the enforced fines for using wood burners in Smoke Control Areas, under the Environment Act 2021. This is a massive issue that is being enforced by Councils throughout the UK.
We also want to address issues raised specifically on the Kennet and Avon Canal, such as the loss/lack of facilities, maintenance on the canal, and more.
There are many things that are changing on the our canals. And I truly believe that we must come together and unite as a community, to tackle these changes. Please spread the word!! Hope to see you all there!”
(Sorry but no dogs are allowed in the hall).
