Liveaboard boaters encouraged to apply for outreach job

Julian House in Bath is recruiting two part-time Outreach and Engagement Workers to improve access to health and social care for Gypsies, Travellers and Boat Dwellers. The closing date is 21st November. This is a new project, funded by the NHS in BaNES, that is the result of the 2012 health survey of boaters and travellers that some boaters took part in. NHS data sale postponed for 6 months

NHS data sharing – know your rights to opt out

Later this year, the National Health Service (NHS) plans to start selling patient information to drug and insurance companies. This month NHS England is sending a leaflet entitled ‘Better Information Means Better Care’ to 26 million households explaining that data will be shared with researchers and organisations outside the NHS – unless you choose to opt out by writing to your GP. Needless to say, most boat dwellers will not get this leaflet.

Tell the doctor you live aboard

If you are registered with a GP at the Health Centre, Station Approach, Bradford on Avon, make sure you inform the surgery that you live on a boat. The Health Centre welcomes liveaboard boaters as patients, whether or not you have a mooring.

BaNES Council want to hear from liveaboard boaters

Bath and NE Somerset Council want to hear from liveaboard boaters on the Kennet and Avon Canal and the River Avon. If you live on your boat without a home mooring, and spend some of your time between Dundas and Hanham, or if you live on a mooring in this area, the Council wants you to tell them about your needs and requirements. Enforcement bully backs down after complaint from injured boater

An enforcement officer has been forced to reconsider ordering an injured boater to move within 48 hours, and has agreed that the boater can stay on a visitor mooring for the time that a doctor has recommended for the injury to heal.
