The Boaters’ Cafe Club outreach boat will be at Dundas basin next Tuesday 7th November 2017 from 12 noon to 4pm. The main attraction is a spoken word and poetry workshop with Dru Marland. The workshop is aimed at boaters who would like support with wellbeing and mindfulness. The loose theme of the workshop will be “outsiders”.
If you, or anyone you know would be interested in taking part in the workshop, please contact 07960 097719 or samw@julianhouse.org.uk or lindsayh@julianhouse.org.uk. Places are limited and it is already proving to be popular. Julian House say that if people want, they can make this a regular workshop. The outreach boat Litania is run jointly by Julian House Travelling Communities Support Service and Canal Ministries.
Also available will be paper copies of the questionnaire for Stage 3 of the CRT licence review consultation, for anyone who doesn’t have internet access or who prefers to complete the questionnaire on paper.
This consultation contains two proposals to increase the cost of a boat licence without a home mooring. There is no legal justification for this. It is discriminatory and unfair. Increasing the licence fee for boaters without a home mooring will drive some of our community off the canal and into homelessness.
It is really important that the views of liveaboard boaters without a home mooring are represented in this consultation!!
Please complete the consultation questionnaire opposing any increase in the licence fee for boats without a home mooring and for widebeams. The most important questions are 24, 25 and 26 (increases in fees without a home mooring) and 1 (increased fees for widebeams). Also important are question 14 (proposals to get rid of the prompt payment discount that many rely on to make the licence affordable) and question 27 (phasing in any increases over a set period). The questionnaire is anonymous and neither you nor your boat can be identified from completing it.
On board the Litania as well will be the usual free hot drinks, snacks and hot lunch for those who need it, and support from Julian House and Canal Ministries.
If you want to print a paper copy of the survey to fill in, you can download it here Print version CRT survey 1.1doc
Paper questionnaires should be sent to Matthew Symonds, Canal & River Trust, Fearns Wharf, Neptune St, Leeds LS9 8PB.
