CRT drops Section 8 cases following Court of Appeal judgement

CRT earlier this year stayed Section 8 cases against two boat dwellers without permanent moorings, Matthew Jones and Christopher McKendrick, following the Court of Appeal judgement in Matthew Jones’s favour on 7th March 2017, we can now reveal. The Consent Order sealed by Bristol County Court on 23rd May 2017 shows that CRT reached a settlement with Matthew Jones. Both Mr Jones and Mr McKendrick have now re-licensed their boats without a permanent mooring. Their homes are not now under threat of being seized by the charity. Both had been deemed by CRT not to have moved “far enough”.

CRT ignores Equality and Human Rights Commission demand to comply with Equality Act

CRT has ignored a letter from the Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) informing it that it must meet its obligations under the Equality Act 2010 to make reasonable adjustments to enable a boater who has a disability to communicate with the Trust.

CRT to appoint Welfare Officer

Following much adverse publicity about evictions of vulnerable, elderly, ill and disabled boat dwellers, CRT has agreed to appoint a Boater Welfare Liaison Manager for an initial period of 12 months.

Nearly 4,500 people pressure CRT to review enforcement against boaters who are ill

All enforcement cases involving boaters who are ill will be personally scrutinised by CRT Chief Executive Richard Parry. This was announced following an online petition that nearly 4,500 people have signed. The petition calls on CRT to stop evicting boat dwellers who are disabled, elderly or vulnerable. Sally Ash tells BaNES liveaboard boaters are forcing out leisure users

A Freedom of Information request has revealed that a meeting took place between CRT and BaNES on 2oth March this year in connection with the Council’s assessment of the inclusion of boat dwellers in its Gypsy, Traveller and Housing Strategy. Reportedly some of the BaNES representatives present were not impressed with CRT.
