Two Oxfordshire Narrowboats hire boats were broken into at Avoncliff in the early evening after dark yesterday and valuables including laptops were stolen. The spate of boat burglaries has continued but boaters have reported more information to the police about suspicious activity along the canal.

Following the spate of thefts from boats in the past two weeks, police are patrolling the towpath after dark. They are calling on occupied boats to warn boaters, and also stopping and searching people on the towpath.

There has been a spate of boats being broken into from Kintbury heading west, including Bedwyn, Brimslade, Wootton Rivers and on Friday evening (8th March) Bishops Cannings.
