Last year over 150 people, mostly liveaboard boaters, signed a letter to Avon and Somerset and Wiltshire police forces about the concerns of liveaboard boaters, leisure boaters and residents along the western end of the K&A about the activities and behaviour of some hire boat groups, especially stag and hen parties.

Monday, October 19th, 2015The BaNES Gypsy, Traveller, Boater and Roma Community Support Service report that over the summer they met with Chief Inspector Thatcher of Avon and Somerset Police on the issue of anti-social hire boaters. Avon and Somerset Police and Wiltshire Police have produced a joint leaflet which has been delivered by them to the hire boat companies along the western K&A, along with a message that the police will take action against drunk and anti-social behaviour from hirers and will be keeping a log of the number of reported incidents, which could result in action being taken against companies that persistently hire to this type of customer.

Wednesday, December 17th, 2014Liveaboard boaters, especially those between Devizes and Bath, are breathing a sigh of relief now this year’s hire boat season is over. The K&A boaters action group is drawing up a dossier of the incidents involving hire boats and complaints that boaters and canalside residents have made about the behaviour or safety of hire boat crew this year. The group will then seek a meeting with the hire companies.
