FFT need volunteers to mystery shop GP surgeries

Friends, Families and Travellers (FFT) need volunteers to help with a mass mystery shop of GP surgeries in England. In recent years, FFT has exposed that GP surgeries routinely broke NHS guidelines by refusing to register a nomadic, Romany or Traveller patient, both before and during the Covid-19 pandemic.

K&A volunteers to step down as boat movement resumes

The volunteer scheme supporting liveaboard boaters on the western K&A through the Coronavirus lockdown is ending when enforcement of boat movement every 14 days resumes this week, because the full volunteering scheme will be too challenging with boats coming and going daily. The red, amber and green signalling system will not be monitored from now on.

CRT to sell Claverton engineman’s cottage despite campaign to save it

A group of volunteers who run the Claverton Pumping Station recently started a campaign to prevent CRT from selling the engineman’s cottage on the site due to the risk that the heritage building would be altered beyond recognition or even demolished. However despite an online petition with 599 signatures, the volunteers reluctantly announced that their campaign was at an end. This is the joint statement today (21st May 2018) from CRT, the Kennet and Avon Canal Trust, and the Claverton Volunteers:

Volunteer enforcer harasses liveaboard without home mooring

A volunteer mooring ranger told a boater without a home mooring recently that “You are one of those continuous cruisers that won’t follow the rules”, demonstrating a prejudiced attitude that is contrary to the job description for these volunteers.
