Friday, February 9th, 2024CRT’s policy statement and report on its 2022 consultation on a minimum standard for boaters’ facilities, published on 30th May and 5th July 2023, states that CRT will increase its minimum cruising distance between facilities from 4 hours to 1 day, even though 25% to 35% of respondents (depending on the specific facility) thought a gap of 5 hours was too great. Since then we have had multiple reports of CRT closing facilities all around the waterways.
K&A User Forum, 24th January, Devizes
Monday, January 8th, 2024There will be a Kennet & Avon Canal User Forum on Wednesday 24th January 2024 from 10:30 to 12:30. The in-person forum will be held at the St James Centre, Estcourt Crescent, Devizes, Wiltshire, SN10 1LR. CRT’s Sarah Cook says “Please join us for some short presentations, have your questions answered and an opportunity to talk to us directly.”
Boaters’ meeting to discuss licence fee surcharge, 15th October, Bradford on Avon
Wednesday, October 11th, 2023There will be a boaters’ meeting to discuss the CRT surcharges for boats without a home mooring; lack of facilities; lack of waterway maintenance and other issues that affect the community of liveaboard boaters on the K&A, and what we can do to protect our way of life.
The meeting will take place at 5pm on Sunday 15th October 2023 at the Wallington Hall, Church St, Bradford on Avon BA15 1LN. Church St is opposite the Dandy Lion pub; the hall used to be called the Masonic Hall or the Church Hall.
Boaters’ showers every Tuesday in Devizes
Thursday, April 6th, 2023The St James Centre in Devizes is offering showers (suggested donation £3) and free tea and coffee on Tuesday mornings at 8am to 10am. The centre is in Estcourt Crescent, postcode SN10 1LR, close to the London Road bridge no 138.The shower is on the ground floor and is fully accessible for people with disabilities.
CRT consultation on minimum standards for boater facilities, deadline 21st November
Sunday, October 16th, 2022Canal & River Trust (CRT) has announced a consultation on minimum standards for boater facilities. This is the first stage of a longer review and consultation regarding boater facilities and aims to gather information in order to agree a minimum standard of boater facilities that CRT will provide. This initial consultation closes on 21st November 2022.
K&A online User Forum, 4th Nov, 6pm
Monday, October 25th, 2021CRT is holding an online Kennet and Avon User Forum on Thursday 4th November at 6pm-7pm. The second half of the session will be a question and answer session. If you have a question you can raise it on the day but CRT also asks people to submit questions by email beforehand no later than Wednesday 27th October.
