A meeting between K&A liveaboard boaters and CRT’s Regional Director Richard Thomas has been cancelled because Mr Thomas “no longer works for the Trust”, it emerged today, 8th July 2019. The meeting was due to take place tomorrow.

The K&A could be split into two waterway regions with the western end to Froxfield being run from Gloucester and the eastern end managed from London, after CRT announced on 7th December 2017 that it would restructure its management. The K&A Waterway Partnership met CRT Chief Executive Richard Parry earlier this month to try to persuade CRT that running the K&A from two different offices would be disastrous for the canal and the people who live and work on it. Mr Parry heard their case but made no promises.
Mike Grimes, Canal & River Trust’s (CRT) Head of Boating, has today announced his resignation from the post after only 22 months. Mike Grimes headed the boating team from August 2015. He joined CRT as Head of Business Boating in April 2015. He said he has “regrettably” decided to step down.
The K&A boaters action group has obtained an assurance from CRT that it will not take enforcement action against boaters who are trapped between Lock 11 in Bath and Seend (Semington for 70′ boats) because of the stoppage at Seend Wharf Bridge. CRT has placed certain conditions on this assurance. The stoppage runs until 11th March. This is the letter from CRT Head of Boating Mike Grimes:
