Boat movement and mooring enforcement resumed yesterday 12th April 2021 as the Coronavirus lockdown continued to be eased. CRT has stated that boaters without a home mooring have 14 days from yesterday to move from the place where they were moored during the lockdown, meaning that they need to have moved by 26th April to avoid any enforcement action.

Following the Government’s announcement of a ‘road map’ out of the current Coronavirus lockdown that began on 4th January, CRT has stated that it expects boat movement to remain limited to essential journeys only until 29th March 2021, and only limited local movement until 12th April 2021. Subject to further Government advice, CRT intends to resume enforcement of the 14-day rule from 12th April.

Following the Government’s announcement on 4th January 2021 of a national Covid-19 lockdown in England, CRT has suspended enforcement of the 14-day rule. The Regulations governing the lockdown are in force until 31st March 2021, although the lockdown may be lifted before then.

Following the Government announcement on 20th December 2020, West Berkshire and Reading are now in a new Tier 4 of Covid-19 restrictions equivalent to lockdown. As of 26th December, Somerset and Bristol will move to Tier 3.

CRT has suspended enforcement of the 14-day rule between 5th November and 2nd December 2020 due to the Government announcement of a Covid-19 lockdown from Thursday 5 November.

Following the Government’s announcement of 23rd June that overnight stays away from home will be permitted in England from 4th July 2020, this means that leisure boaters will be able to stay overnight on their boats and hire and hotel boat companies may resume trading.

As of 23rd May 2020 CRT resumed enforcement of summer visitor mooring time limits and of the 14 day limit for most boaters without a home mooring. CRT has stated that it expects boaters without a home mooring to move by 6th June 2020 unless they have ‘reasonable adjustments’ under the Equality Act or if it is reasonable for them to stay where they are for longer than 14 days. If you are shielding or self-isolating, are in a ‘high risk’ category or you have other needs, it is clearly reasonable to stay where you are and we would advise you to tell CRT if you have not done so already.

Whilst it has not yet been possible to set up dedicated support for liveaboard boaters on the eastern K&A during the coronavirus lockdown, there are some land based community support groups in that operate from Great Bedwyn eastwards.
