Skip for boaters’ and moorers’ bulky rubbish, Hilperton Marsh, Fri 9th – Mon 12th February

There will be a skip at the car park by Hilperton Marsh bridge (165) from this Friday 9th to Monday 12th February 2018. It is for bulky rubbish from boats on the towpath and moored at Hilperton Marsh Farm, and it will also be used to dispose of rubbish cleared by the Boaters’ Towpath Tidy this Sunday 11th February.

More facilities and skips planned for K&A while CRT seeks review of Biffa contract

More facilities for boaters are planned on the K&A. In a meeting between K&A Manager Mark Evans and representatives of liveaboard boaters in which refuse and sewage disposal facilities, water taps and maintenance were discussed, Mr Evans said he was looking at providing an extra water tap on the eastern end of the canal, possibly at Thatcham.

CRT bins its rubbish promises

At the K&A Users Forum on 23rd April 2014, Waterway Manager Mark Stephens agreed that he would speak to Wiltshire Council about re-instating the boaters’ rubbish bins at Devizes Wharf, where there is an Elsan disposal point, pump-out and water tap. However, enquiries last month by boater and journalist Bob Naylor elicited a statement from CRT’s contracts manager Richard Harrison that there are no current plans to re-instate the bins.

CRT rubbish collection includes recycling

Following the release of a copy of the contract between CRT and Biffa for rubbish collection, it is clear that boaters can recycle glass, plastic, non-hazardous metal, paper, card and textiles by putting them loose into the CRT boaters’ rubbish bins.

Bins to be re-instated at Hungerford and Devizes Wharf

Following a 148-signature petition and complaints to CRT, K&A Manager Mark Stephens has agreed to re-instate the rubbish bins for boaters in Hungerford and Devizes Wharf. Other bin stores will be improved to prevent misuse and fly-tipping, including building fences and lockable gates.

Your opinion on K&A refuse facilities is needed

Following a complaint and a 148-signature petition about the removal of rubbish bins on the K&A, waterway manager Mark Stephens has asked for feedback on the schedule for the contractors Biffa who empty all the bins on the K&A.
