Liveaboard boaters in Wiltshire who missed out on the Government’s Energy Bills Support Scheme are being offered £400 by Wiltshire Council. If you did not get any winter fuel and food payments from Julian House, you can apply. The funding covers boaters on residential, leisure and other non-residential moorings. Anyone in Wiltshire who has previously missed out on funding needs to upload a PDF of their CRT licence, and the first 500 households will receive £400. Neither CRT nor any mooring companies or marinas etc will be involved in the application process. The deadline to apply is 31st March 2024. You can apply by phone, contact 0300 003 4576.

Thursday, January 6th, 2022The Environment Act 2021, which became law on 9th November, will remove the partial exemption for boats from the Clean Air Act 1993. Local authorities will now have the power to apply their Smoke Control Areas to boats moored within the areas, under Section 73 and Schedule 12 of the Act.
CRT has been asked to provide contact information for boat owners to local authorities where they need it to enforce Smoke Control Areas. There is an exemption for smoke which is created to propel the vessel or to generate electricity. There is no exemption for heating. Local authorities can now impose fines of at least £175 for breaches of Smoke Control regulations.
Wiltshire boat dwellers survey available on paper
Friday, September 1st, 2017Paper copies of the Wiltshire Council boat dwellers survey are available for those who need them. You can collect a copy from Bradford on Avon, Devizes or Pewsey libraries. They will also be available on the Boaters’ Cafe Club outreach boat run by Julian House Gypsy, Traveller, Boater & Roma Community Support Service, which will be at Bradford Lower Wharf next Tuesday 5th September 12pm to 4pm. There may also be some distributed from boats in the Long Pound. Please pass this news on to anyone you know who might need it.

Saturday, May 26th, 2012The boat fire safety advisor from Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service will be visiting boaters along the Kennet & Avon Canal as part of boat safety week next week. Rob Buckland, who used to live on a narrowboat, will be travelling along the Wiltshire stretch of the canal between May 31 and June 5 to offer free fire safety advice and free smoke detectors to boaters.
