The Kennet and Avon Canal Trust needs crew for the work boat Vale of Pewsey on Thursday 19th May starting from 9.30am and also on Friday 20th May. They will be clearing the wall below Bradford lock from Heaven Scent (Candle factory) along the boundary with Victory Field. This will take all day. On the Friday they plan to carry on cutting back the offside vegetation towards Avoncliff. Please email Derrick Hunt if you want to help. Volunteers don’t have to be members of the Trust. Tuesday, March 22nd, 2011The next Kennet and Avon User Group meeting will take place on Monday 4th April 2011, 7pm-9pm at the Kennet & Avon Trust Offices, The Wharf, Devizes. Boaters have attended the past few User Group Meetings and made it clear to BW what they think of their attempts at unlawful enforcement of the Mooring Guidance for Continuous Cruisers, the Local Mooring Strategy, and other issues. Tuesday, December 7th, 2010A boater attended the BW Annual General Meeting in Birmingham on 2 December and put the following question to the question and answer panel.
“When will BW stop acting beyond its powers in carrying out enforcement that makes liveaboard boaters homeless, given that Nigel Johnson’s evidence in Bristol County Court on 23 September shows that such enforcement is unlawful?”
Carol service cancelled

Canal Trust work party 5th December
Wednesday, December 1st, 2010The Kennet and Avon Canal Trust is holding one of its regular work parties on Saturday 5th December. Meet at the Trust’s cafe at Bradford lock at 10am. All are welcome. At the last work day the volunteers concentrated on gardening and tidying the area around the lock.
Dundas Carol Service
Wednesday, November 17th, 2010The boaters’ carol service will take place at Dundas Aqueduct on Saturday 4th December at 6pm. As the picture from last year shows, this is a magical event enjoyed by boaters and local residents alike. There will be mince pies afterwards. The service is organised by Canal Ministries, who also offer free food all year round to people in need on the waterways.

The beautiful sundial constructed to commemorate the K&A 200th anniversary was unveiled on 30 October at lock 10 on the Widcombe flight in Bath. Boaters attended the ceremony in order to hand out leaflets informing the public that BW’s unlawful new policies will make liveaboard boaters homeless.
Join the replica working boat and help us on 13th November towpath tidy
Wednesday, November 3rd, 2010Everyone is welcome to join us on a Towpath Tidy on Saturday 13th November. Meet at 11am outside the Canal Tavern in Bradford on Avon. We plan to tidy the towpath between Bradford on Avon and Dundas. There will be a work boat to carry the rubbish. This boat is Ishtar, the first Bradford Star Class traditional working boat.
Bring protective gloves, a wheelbarrow, a bike trailer or a boathook if you have them. We will provide bin bags, litter picking spikes and some extra gloves. There will be handwashing facilities provided at Dundas. All towpath users are welcome to join in.
