Voter registration forms available at Devizes Wharf, register by 22nd May

Don’t lose your vote in the election! Voter registration forms for people without a fixed address are available from The Wharf Tea Rooms, Devizes Wharf, Couch Lane, Devizes SN10 1EB. The tea rooms are open every day from 10am to 4pm. Liveaboard boaters are also distributing them along the canal to neighbouring boats. You need to register by 22nd May to vote in the 2017 General Election.

If you want to vote in the General Election on 8th June 2017, you need to register by 22nd May. Anybody who does not have a fixed address can register to vote by declaring a local connection. You can’t register to vote online if you are declaring a local connection.

Boat Fire Safety week May 25th to 31st

Following the tragic death of a boater in a fire on a boat at Hilperton Marsh last November, Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service is once again sending Boat Fire Safety Advisers cycling along the towpath and to marinas offering FREE boat fire safety checks and smoke alarms. May 25th to 31st is Boat Fire Safety Week throughout the country.

Hardship fund for boat dwellers started by Waterways Chaplaincy

The Waterways Chaplaincy has started a hardship fund to assist vulnerable boat dwellers. This fund can help with the cost of essential items like fuel or gas, or help boaters on a low income with irregular expenses that they cannot afford.

Boater writes cruising log app

A boater has come up with an innovative solution to the problem of inaccurate boat sighting information by CRT leading to enforcement action. John Quinlan has written an app called CruisingLog that uses GPS to record your boat movements.

Register now if you want to vote in the 2014 European election

Liveaboard boaters have the right to vote even though we may not have a fixed address. There will be European Parliament elections on May 22nd this year. If you fill in and send back the electoral registration form before the deadline of May 6th 2014, you will be added to the electoral roll in time to vote.
