Chippenham MP Michelle Donelan walked the 87-mile length of the K&A canal last weekend to help raise funds for a new building for Holt Pre-School. She completed the walk yesterday having raised around £6,400. The Chippenham constituency includes the K&A Canal from Dundas to Bowerhill. Michelle Donelan is the Minister of State for Higher and Further Education.
In 2016 Ms Donelan called a meeting with CRT Chief Executive Richard Parry after a number of boater families contacted her for help because they were being threatened with licence termination and removal of their boats due to needing to stay within reach of their children’s schools in term time, as a result of CRT’s new enforcement policy imposed from May 2015. Local head teachers also attended the meeting and called CRT’s enforcement policy “inhumane”. The meeting led to CRT’s partial acceptance of liveaboard boaters’ proposals for a term Time Cruising Pattern.
