Liveaboard boaters and their supporters are invited to join a protest at Caen Hill, opposite CRT’s office in Devizes at 2.00pm on Saturday 6th August 2016 to express our opposition to CRT’s punitive and unlawful enforcement policy against boaters without home moorings. This policy has seen so many liveaboard boaters on the K&A having their licences restricted to 6 months, threatened with losing their homes, being pressured to give up their homes, and boat children’s education and welfare suffering due to the long distances they are being forced to travel to school.
On 17th June a meeting took place in Bradford on Avon between boaters, Michelle Donelan MP, head teachers, local councillors and CRT’s Chief Executive Richard Parry. At this meeting, the head of Bathampton Primary School called CRT’s enforcement policy ‘inhumane’ and Wiltshire Councillor Magnus Macdonald described CRT’s enforcement as ‘shoot first and ask questions afterwards’.
Please meet on the towpath at Lock 44 Caen Hill SN10 1QR to call for No evictions of Boat Dwellers! Full 12-month boat licences for all! Let boat children go to school! The protest will then take a short walk to CRT’s office and back. There will be leaflets to hand out.
We have placards. We also have a supply of sheets, for use if any children, or their parents, or anyone, would like to get creative and make banners – please get in touch to pick up the sheets (see below). As well as banners and placards, please bring megaphones, musical instruments, good singing voices and copies to share of any song lyrics or sea shanties that suit the occasion. This will be a peaceful protest. It will end at approximately 4.30pm.
The flyer below is to print and put in your boat window, distribute to friends and neighbours, email or share on Facebook. For more information please contact info@boatingcommunity.org.uk or 07928 078208.
