The next meeting of the K&A boaters action group will be on Monday 8th May 2017 at 7.30pm at the Lamb Inn, 20 St.John’s Street, Devizes SN10 1BT. We will have voter registration forms for people without a fixed address for boaters to either complete on the spot, take away, or distribute to other boaters. If you have the time to deliver some forms to the boats around you, please come to the meeting!

A group of fourteen boaters from the K&A joined the national Boats Are Homes march on Saturday 8th April 2017. The demonstration was organised in protest against CRT’s unlawful enforcement policy against boaters without home moorings. Boat dwellers from all over the waterways took part. The march was organised by the National Bargee Travellers Association.

K&A boater Matthew Jones yesterday won his appeal against CRT’s attempt to strike out the Article 8 elements of his defence against eviction from CRT’s waterways under Section 8 of the British Waterways Act 1983. The case will now be remitted back to Bristol County Court where Mr Jones will be able to put his Article 8 arguments in full. Mr Jones’s solicitor Community Law Partnership writes:

More facilities for boaters are planned on the K&A. In a meeting between K&A Manager Mark Evans and representatives of liveaboard boaters in which refuse and sewage disposal facilities, water taps and maintenance were discussed, Mr Evans said he was looking at providing an extra water tap on the eastern end of the canal, possibly at Thatcham.
