On 14th February 2017 the Waterways Ombudsman stated in a case report (Case no 933) that CRT intended in the coming weeks to publish “illustrative cruising patterns” for liveaboard boaters with school age children. In the Navigation Advisory Group meeting of 13th February 2017, former Head of Boating Mike Grimes stated: “We’re looking at putting together and publish soon some example compliant movement patterns that boaters with children could look at to help inform their movement patterns”.

As liveaboard boaters without home moorings are being unlawfully forced by CRT to travel longer distances to avoid having our homes seized and removed, many of us have also been forced to use cars to get to work and take children to school, when previously we could rely on cycling and public transport. Many are now having to travel to work or school from places that are much further away, including rural Wiltshire and Berkshire, where public transport is poor or non-existent.

Friday, December 23rd, 2016More facilities for boaters are planned on the K&A. In a meeting between K&A Manager Mark Evans and representatives of liveaboard boaters in which refuse and sewage disposal facilities, water taps and maintenance were discussed, Mr Evans said he was looking at providing an extra water tap on the eastern end of the canal, possibly at Thatcham.
Support from BaNES Council: more liveaboard boaters needed to help build on a positive start
Monday, October 24th, 2016Boater Sam Worrall, who works for Julian House Travelling Communities Support Service, spoke at the BaNES council meeting on 15th September 2016 to explain the adverse effects of CRT’s unlawful enforcement against liveaboard boaters and the lack of facilities along the canal and River Avon. She asked the Council to recognise, support and consider liveaboard boaters in its policy and planning.
