Protest at CRT Devizes office 6th August

Liveaboard boaters and their supporters are invited to join a protest at Caen Hill, opposite CRT’s office in Devizes at 2.00pm on Saturday 6th August 2016 to express our opposition to CRT’s punitive and unlawful enforcement policy against boaters without home moorings. This policy has seen so many liveaboard boaters on the K&A having their licences restricted to 6 months, threatened with losing their homes, being pressured to give up their homes, and boat children’s education and welfare suffering due to the long distances they are being forced to travel to school.

Battlelines drawn

Nick Brown of NBTA met with CRT yesterday. This is his summary of that meeting.

“Meeting with CRT in MK: Head of Legal (Jackie Lewis), another of the Legal Team (Tom Deards), Head of Boating (Mike Grimes) and Matthew Symonds.

We are still mulling over the conclusions but suffice to say the meeting didn’t go well they conceded very little (if anything).

Off the Cut

Off the Cut, Wendy Zakiewicz’s moving documentary about a Kennet and Avon boater’s struggle against being made homeless through the actions of CRT, provides a unique insight into a community of boaters living on the Kennet and Avon canal.

The film follows a family on their pedal powered boat as they embark on a journey in which their way of life, and that of the whole community, comes under threat.

CRT steps up its attack on liveaboards without home moorings

CRT publish enforcement letters

What to do if CRT refuses to renew your boat licence for 12 months

CRT’s new policy on boaters without home moorings effective from 1st May 2015 has already meant that many boaters have had renewal of their licence for 12 months refused and a six-month or three -month licence offered instead.

K&A boaters action group next meet May 11th, Honey Street

The next meeting of the K&A boaters action group will be on Monday 11th May at 7.30pm in Honey Street. Please come and get involved in defending and promoting the boating community on the K&A. Among other things the group will be discussing what CRT’s new policy towards boaters without home moorings means for boaters now that the the K&A Interim 12-month Local Plan has ended.
