CRT reneges on agreement to re-instate boaters’ rubbish bins at Horton Bridge

CRT has reneged on the agreement that it made in May 2019 with boaters and Wadworths Brewery to re-instate the boaters’ rubbish bins at the Bridge Inn, Horton, near Devizes.

In December 2019, fourteen boaters sent a complaint to Acting Regional Director Jon Horsfall that no progress had been made on constructing the proposed new bin site at the pub and also that the water tap at the Bridge Inn had been out of service since November 2019.

Mark Evans to become Wales and South West regional director

CRT announced on 21st November that Mark Evans, who was the K&A manager until 2018, has been appointed as Regional Director for Wales and the South West. He will take up his post in January 2020.

CRT’s plans for the K&A include more enforcement

CRT’s interim Regional Director for Wales and the South West, Jon Horsfall, confirmed on 18th July 2019 that CRT remains “committed to delivering” the strategic programmes that were devised by former regional director Richard Thomas in conjunction with User Group Forums in 2018 and 2019 and a study day in which the liveaboard boating community was significantly under-represented despite efforts to persuade the former director to include us.

Richard Thomas appointment backfires: why the regional director left CRT

We now have a clearer picture of why Richard Thomas, Regional Director for Wales and the South West, has left CRT. Sources close to CRT and from the wider community concur in saying that he was difficult to work with, abrasive and unpredictable. It looks as though he left by mutual consent rather than as the result of disciplinary action.

K&A manager made redundant in CRT restructuring

Mark Evans, who has been the manager of the Kennet and Avon Canal since April 2015, will lose his job as a result of CRT restructuring.
