Liveaboards secure representation in Bath – Devizes visitor mooring review

One of the actions in the K&A Interim 12-month Local Plan is a review of visitor moorings between Bath and Devizes. Liveaboard boaters without home moorings were informed that this review is taking place between January and March 2015, but were not invited to take part.

Data checker becomes enforcement officer as CRT resumes weekly boat checks

CRT has appointed Licensing Officer/ Data Checker Matthew Preston as the second Enforcement Officer on the K&A. This is despite Mr Preston’s claims to boaters that he just wanted a quiet life and aimed to do his job without any confrontation. He started his new role at the beginning of this month.

Please log this year’s incidents and complaints about hire boats here!

Liveaboard boaters, especially those between Devizes and Bath, are breathing a sigh of relief now this year’s hire boat season is over. The K&A boaters action group is drawing up a dossier of the incidents involving hire boats and complaints that boaters and canalside residents have made about the behaviour or safety of hire boat crew this year. The group will then seek a meeting with the hire companies.

Salem to quit CRT in 2015

Simon Salem, CRT’s Marketing Director, is to leave CRT in June next year, it was announced on Friday. The announcement comes only 5 months after CRT publicised plans to restructure its management teams, a re-organisation that appeared to leave Mr Salem with very little to do.

Are you a new continuous cruiser?

When CRT established the Towpath Mooring Control project (which was quickly renamed the Towpath Mooring Management project) it declared its intention to write to all new continuous cruisers ‘welcoming’ them and setting out what CRT expected regarding boat movements.

Sean Williams, the recently appointed CRT Welfare Officer, started work this week. CRT moorings consultation sparks angry petition

CRT is holding another consultation on methods for allocation of its directly managed moorings, but despite the previous consultation in 2008 showing overwhelming opposition to the principle of an auction system, it is refusing to even consider abandoning the auctions. In addition, the consultation only runs for one month, in contravention of the law on consultations. If you oppose the mooring auctions, please respond to the consultation before 3rd November expressing your opposition. Send your response to mooring.updates@canalrivertrust.org.uk. CRT rubbish collection includes recycling

Following the release of a copy of the contract between CRT and Biffa for rubbish collection, it is clear that boaters can recycle glass, plastic, non-hazardous metal, paper, card and textiles by putting them loose into the CRT boaters’ rubbish bins.
