Protest at CRT Devizes office 6th August

Liveaboard boaters and their supporters are invited to join a protest at Caen Hill, opposite CRT’s office in Devizes at 2.00pm on Saturday 6th August 2016 to express our opposition to CRT’s punitive and unlawful enforcement policy against boaters without home moorings. This policy has seen so many liveaboard boaters on the K&A having their licences restricted to 6 months, threatened with losing their homes, being pressured to give up their homes, and boat children’s education and welfare suffering due to the long distances they are being forced to travel to school.

Fire service to run a series of Boat Fire Safety talks, next one Devizes 25th January

Following the recent fatal boat fire on the K&A, the Fire Service will be giving a series of Boat Fire Safety talks in different places along the canal in the Bath and the Wiltshire areas in the next few weeks. Please come along and make sure your boat is as fire safe as possible. The next talk will be in the Black Horse, Bath Rd, Devizes SN10 2AU on Monday 25th January at 7.30pm. There will be free smoke alarms and carbon monoxide alarms.

More hire boats for Devizes Wharf

Canoe slipway means loss of mooring space on Devizes Wharf – object by 3rd July!

A planning application by Devizes Canoe Club to build a slipway will result in the loss of what is now permanent mooring space at Lower Wharf, Devizes.If you are concerned about the loss of mooring space, the deadline for objections is July 3rd.

Boat watch proposed for Bedwyn to Devizes

The RBOA rep for the eastern K&A, Jane Pollard, has had discussions with PC Teresa Herbert of Wiltshire Police. Jane says “PC Herbert is very keen to establish an efficient means of communication along her patch of the canal – mainly Bedwyn to Devizes – but there is an officer coordinating all issues along the length of the canal too. She suggested possible local meetings and realises that there is not sufficient policing of the canal. She wants to improve this.”
