CRT bins its rubbish promises

At the K&A Users Forum on 23rd April 2014, Waterway Manager Mark Stephens agreed that he would speak to Wiltshire Council about re-instating the boaters’ rubbish bins at Devizes Wharf, where there is an Elsan disposal point, pump-out and water tap. However, enquiries last month by boater and journalist Bob Naylor elicited a statement from CRT’s contracts manager Richard Harrison that there are no current plans to re-instate the bins.

CRT to upgrade K&A sanitary stations

CRT announced last week that it had allocated £225,000 towards upgrading sanitary stations on the K&A and in the North West, the Midlands and London as part of a new programme of improvements throughout the system that also includes dredging and offside vegetation cutting.

Bins to be re-instated at Hungerford and Devizes Wharf

Following a 148-signature petition and complaints to CRT, K&A Manager Mark Stephens has agreed to re-instate the rubbish bins for boaters in Hungerford and Devizes Wharf. Other bin stores will be improved to prevent misuse and fly-tipping, including building fences and lockable gates.

Date for installing temporary facilities at Dundas announced at user meeting

Several boaters attended the Kennet and Avon User Group meeting on May 3rd and among other information, found out that temporary facilities at Dundas would be installed on May 14th; that drought restrictions are still in force, and that the Local Mooring Strategy proposals were due to be reviewed by the Local Waterway Partnership.
